Ableton Live 12 Sound Design Atlas
An offline, device-level reference for designing sounds in Live 12.x — organised by sound type (sub, kick, 808, reese, wobble, leads, pads, voice, no-input feedback, textures…), by genre (deep techno, dub techno, dubstep, grime, trap, drum & bass, ambient, trip-hop, amapiano…), with track deconstructions, a rack library with macro maps, processing & mixing chapters and reference cheat-sheets. Every chain, rack, envelope, spectrum map, EQ curve, step pattern and arrangement timeline is drawn from data, so the diagrams stay consistent across the whole site.
/ focuses search · ◐ toggles dark/light · everything works from a local folder, no internet needed.

How to use this atlas
If you know the sound you want
Start in Sound Categories. Each page goes from the physics of the sound (what the ear needs, where it sits in the spectrum) to 6–14 recipes, a full processing chain, a rack with macros, a per-genre variation table and the mistakes that usually ruin it. Then grab the matching build from the Rack Library.
If you know the genre
Start in Genres: sonic signature, the elements that define it and how to make each in Live 12, groove settings, an arrangement template, mix targets, sub-styles. Then open the matching Track Deconstruction for a full blueprint you can rebuild in 10 steps.
If you want to understand the tools
Fundamentals covers every Live 12 instrument deeply (Operator, Wavetable, Analog, Drift, Meld, Sampler family, Roar), racks and macros, Max for Live modulators, the Live 12 MIDI tools, routing/resampling, tuning & MPE, and hardware/modular integration (CV Tools, External Instrument, TD-3, eurorack).
If you are mixing
Processing & Mixing: sidechain, compression, saturation, parallel chains, mid/side, EQ, reverb, delay, spectral tools, transients, layering, loudness, templates, automation and live performance. Reference has the numbers: frequency chart, note↔Hz, BPM↔ms, device parameter map, shortcuts, glossary.
Reading the diagrams
Boxes are coloured by device role. A dashed pink line is a sidechain or modulation input. Chains read left to right; racks show parallel chains stacked, summing at the output, with their macro map underneath.
Version notes
Written for Live 12 Suite. Where a feature arrived in a point release it is labelled: 12.0 Meld, Roar, Granulator III, MIDI Tools (generators/transformations), tuning systems, stacked detail view · 12.1 Drum Sampler, Auto Shift, Saturator & Limiter redesign, Glissando/LFO MIDI tools, Euclidean Sequencer · 12.2 Bounce in Place / to New Track, Expressive Chords, Auto Filter redesign, Meld chord engine & Scrambler, Roar sidechain, Quick Tags · 12.3 Stem Separation, Bounce Group, Paste Bounced Audio, A/B compare, Auto Pan-Tremolo redesign, Splice. Numeric values everywhere are starting points — tune by ear.
